My blog post from last week detailed my choice of a Magnus Stinger Buzzcut broadhead for my 10-year-old son’s first-ever hunting weekend. And I’m a proud papa to report he shot his first deer!

If you care about the hunt details, here are some notes:
*Hunt was filmed by my wife on an inexpensive Flip video camera, hence the poor quality. But hey, anything is better than nothing.
*We saw five deer that afternoon/evening; one doe ran past our Double Bull blind early on but wouldn’t stop for a shot.
*Elliott’s doe suddenly appeared with 10 minutes of hunting time remaining. Most of the video you see of the deer is out of a window that Elliott couldn’t reach with his bow; he had to wait for the doe to step in front of his window.
*Elliott was waiting for me to whisper “shoot” or to make a bleat to signal when he should shoot. Because of this lack of communication (my fault), the deer almost escaped. I finally bleated when I saw the doe leaving, and thankfully Elliott was ready to fire. Shot distance was only 5 or 6 yards!
*While I don’t bow hunt in heavy rain (difficult or impossible to blood trail), this evening was one of those borderline off-and-on rainy days. Thankfully, it all worked out OK as we walked right to the fallen deer.
Until next time …
