Game-changer: Saudis seek to re-balance Mideast against U.S.December 7, 2013 at 2:49 am #10065
I’ve been to the Middle East 9 times. I’m a veteran of Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. One thing I’ve learned is that the Middle East has never been a friend of the USA and it never will be! It is a huge waste of money and resources for us to even be involved there. In the big scheme of things we stand to gain very little from that part of the world.
Think back to Jimmy Carter’s era. That was when the die was cast on how are relationships with the Middle Eastern nations would be. The biggest mistake Carter made was in trying to be the “nice guy”. At that time, the USA was the major market for oil and make no mistake about it, oil is the only thing the area produces that we need. Carter should have told OPEC to drink the oil and he should have immediately ramped up our domestic production to break our reliance on foreign oil. Additionally since the USA exported and still exports a huge amount of food to the Middle East, Carter should have used food as a weapon and made a bushel of wheat cost the exact same as a barrel of oil. You can’t drink oil but you damn sure have to eat!
Fast forward to today and we no longer have the ability to leverage ourselves like that. China, India, Japan and Russia are now major oil consumers. If the USA refuses to buy now, there are now other markets. We had a single chance to set ourselves up for success and Carter blew it! The USA still needs to do everything in its power to become energy independent. American politicians and their refusal to allow us to become energy independent are to blame for this problem and the blood that has been spilled ultimately is on their hands.
If we no longer need the Middle East, we can pull the troops and the Navy out of the Persian Gulf Area and let it implode. The only nation that is we are really allied with over there is Israel and we can help Israel from the Med and don’t need to bother with the Persian Gulf. Trying to remain on good terms with the Muslim Nations is like trying to pet a rattlesnake. You may get away with it for a while, but you will end up getting bit eventually.December 7, 2013 at 8:54 am #10075
Thank you for your service flags… too bad most Americans haven’t a clue what you just said!
Obama is the laughing stock of the planet and will never be taken seriously by any nation! The damage he will continue to do will be felt for decades!!

Jimmy Carter did start a bad precedence over there. Obomination is just reinforcing it. That’s the cold hard truth. When the OPEC nations cut back on production. And increased the price of gas in the middle 70′s. They should have been told to kiss off. And slowed down the shipments of wheat. And, increased the price of it. And said. It goes both ways. You get reasonable. We will return the favor. Everything Flags said was so very true.December 31, 2013 at 6:23 pm #10984
China, India, Japan, and Russia as well as many other countries still rely on our farmers for wheat and other farm goods so I say we now use the food for whatever product we need from those countries listed. The oil reserves both in this country and Canada are bigger than any other outside of Australia and our government will not use ours as they plan on being the last country with the biggest reserves and then and only then turn the tables on the rest other than our proven ally’s which do not include any of the countries named here. They can’t eat or dink the oil so I say it is past time to play real poker and make them out up or get out of the game.December 31, 2013 at 9:20 pm #10989
And the Saudi’s are saying that Oblamer has stabbed them in the back on Mideast affairs by not helping them .Screw them all .Lets get out of there for good .If it was not for our knolage of drilling for oil they would all be in deep chit.
