Was hoping to come in here and find some good advice about catching my breath after walking to my stand or at least some good recipes for loin chops, add pecans or what.
Hunted NJ all my life - In the past year I moved to SC - flatlanders surpriseDecember 31, 2013 at 8:42 am #10963
What part of the state are you living in? With the comment “flatlanders surprise” in your signature line I’m thinking you are probably somewhere close to me. I’m in Hampton and hunt the swamps with dogs and a shotgun; and hunt my pine plantation out of tree stands and tower blinds with a rifle. I have several good recipes for venison tenderloins and backstraps but none of them use pecans.
BTW, I just noticed that someone had posted in the SC section this morning, so I apologize for not responding sooner. Since the last fustercluck with this site, I’m not as active here as I used to be.

Hey Northern Newbee and rthomas4
Smokepole here from Conway, SC.
Originally from NJ but 23 years USAF and another 29 here in SC. Hope you’re enjoying the hunting is SC.
I am a Life Member of NAHC and also an Administrator of one of the best SC Web Sites.
We schedule several hunts every year of our members.
March – Hog Hunting in Woodbury, WMA or Francis Marion National Forest
April – Turkey in Francis Marion
Aug – Hog s in Woodbury
Oct/Nov Deer in Francis Marion – Usually Muzzleloader but also High Powered Rifle.
There are several units in FM and during the above time frame the Waterhorn WMA is muzzleloader, The Wambaw and Northampton WMA’s are HP Rifle. The hunts we choose are Either sex hunts (doe tags required in FM)
Deer – Dec another hunt in FM and this one also Either Sex and HP Rifle. Of course you can use any legal weapon.
We usually go Wed-Sat (Noon) and camp in the Waterhorn WMA, Elmwood Hunt Camp (free)
I also hunt Lewis Ocean Bay (LOB) WMA and Waccamaw WMA in Horry County. I live 1 mile from the entrance to LOB.
I have hunted Francis Marion for 42 years and still going strong. Lewis Ocean Bay since opening 1990. Woodbury since opening 6 years ago??
So if you guys need any info about our group go to SC Outdoor Adventures.com and join up (Free). We think it’s a great site with a wealth of good info. Many of our SCOA members were once on the NAHC site and the SCDNR site.
I’m also Smokepole on that site.
Good to meet you.February 11, 2014 at 2:36 pm #12623
Hey, Smokepole I sent you a PM, I registered over there ……..twice, I even sent roaddog an e-mail; but evidently I’m not going to be accepted. I’d at least like an explanation!!!!!!!!! I’d certainly enjoy participating in a forum devoted strictly to our state, but it appears I’m not welcome.

Evidently it took some sort of expertise to get my registration to go through. roaddog sent me an e-mail with my same user name, but a different password and it took. Looks like a great site and I’m happy to now be a part of it.
