Amazing, a 14.5% raise and 90% of healthcare paid for and not good enough!! They need to be pushed into the real world!!!
‘Out of touch’ union members strike over 14.5 percent pay raiseNovember 20, 2013 at 5:23 am #9219
That’s pretty outrageous. With most government agencies looking to make cuts, you would think those workers would be a bit more realistic. I have always thought they could save a lot if they brought the paid holidays more in line with the private sector. The days pay for no work is bad enough, but, many government worker get double or triple time to work those days. The only veterans that get Veterans Day off are the ones that work for the government. How many of you get a paid day off for Presidents Day?November 22, 2013 at 5:20 am #9343
This attitude from the union members should not surprise anyone and it’s not exclusive to pubic employee unions. We have a similar situation here in northeast Ohio and the USW members have been out on the picket line for almost a year over their expectation for the company to absorb all of the additional costs inflicted by Obamacare despite the fact that they and the union played a critical role in getting Obama elected. I have found that their “we got ours, screw everyone else” attitude is common among union members and is a major contributor to the negative perception the general public has of the unions.November 22, 2013 at 8:27 pm #9391
And now Boing is going to get out of Washington state .The union would not go along with their offer .Wait to see more of this .
Well here I am .November 24, 2013 at 5:39 pm #9419
Most of you are aware that I’ve had my negative run ins with unions in the past, which is why I’m one of the biggest anti-union people on this and other sites. This current spate of union attitude is more reason than ever for unions, both public and private, to be done away with. As I’ve often stated unions have outlived their purpose and now only serve to impede employment and further increase the amount of money that is funneled to union executives. Unions today are nothing more than legalized extortion rings and I find it amusing that the union members were gullible enough to accept the promises of Obama and their union bosses, only now to find out that they too were lied to and screwed over by the people they voted for and the people they pay to have their jobs!!!!!!!!
Unions and the minimum wage laws have done far more damage to the employment picture and the economy in this country than even the social programs of the progressives. The greed of the unions is just as bad as the greed of the welfare class that believes we the taxpayers are somehow responsible for providing for their subsistence. I can’t help but wonder at what point will both groups learn that the sugar tit will eventually dry up and then where will they be???????

Like all things there must be a balance. The unions came about because of the greed and atrocities of the robber barons of the past. Slavery has been a part of human life since the drawn of time, the haves and have-nots, the oppressors and the oppressed. Unions are a natural part of a republican form of Government such as ours. Give people the right to speak out against atrocity and oppression and they will. If a balance is reached all works fairly well. But too much the other way and the oppressed become the oppressors. A balance was reached and lasted for a while. But the obsessive rules, regulations brought about by the unions be came to oppressive and ate into the profits of the business. But now big business have found third world countries, free from even the most realistic regulations they have and are moving out of the US. And all will be good for the profit until the people of those countries rise up, then it will be more than profit loss. The problem will be the CEOs of those Companies will not loosening anything more than just a little profit, the rest of us will pay a high price for their greed, it is nature’s law. Unions were an still could be a good thing we must see that, while seeing pushed to far can be very harmful. But like all things to many tend to be cohered one way or the other and jump on one side or the other making any kind of balance very hard to find.November 26, 2013 at 11:02 am #9502
When the unions were first organized and brought into existence they were needed but like a lot of things their time has come to pass. They should be done away with so that the union leaders and their staffs can stop getting rich off the backs of their members. I feel sorry for those who live in pro union states and have to pay dues in order to get a job and work. Unions are one of the reasons that automobiles are so high along with other union made products and services. When Ford closed the Taurus plant here in Hapeville, Ga they kept a staff of 22 people ( this was in the union contract ) in the plant for 2 years and their only job was to be on site during the workday. They played cards, watched TV, slept, or done whatever they wanted as long as they were on the property for the day. 2 years of paying these people to do nothing but be on the property till it was ” officially closed ” is plain ridiculous. I got a job back in 1971 after much harassment from a friend as a union carpenter starting at $17.00 per hour which was great money back then. I lasted a whole 2 weeks and couldn’t take it any longer. There was plenty of work to be done but because they were short on laborers we could not pick up or move any materials we needed as that was the laborers job. I made the mistake of carrying my own materials to where I was working but had not been due to not having the materials. Well it didn’t take long before the steward came to where I was and told me to not ever do this again. I asked why not as I needed the materials to do my job. This was when he informed me that by doing this I was taking away from the laborers work. This made not one iota of sense to me so as I said I made it through the 2 week pay period and then quit. It’s ridiculous at the many different rules they have about who can and can’t do certain things. I was also told that when they won a bid for a job that was for instance 2 years and even if they could and did finish that job in a shorter time they simply kept the minimum people on the job in order to make the job last the full 2years and everybody got paid whether they were actually working or not. This is what is wrong today and that’s why it is time for the unions to be done away with. If they would do this the cost for the people would go down as there would not be anyone to demand that someone be way overpaid for any job that many would be glad to for half what the union wages are. The may who are unemployed are more than willing to work and as I said they would do the same jobs for a fair days pay instead of the bloated union wages so all the do nothings can make their big paychecks. Many union people have went on to be union higher ups and have retired with big pensions and benefits that they did not EARN by working hard.
