Uprooted again… Oh well. I just put ten bucks in the juke box, and I found this leftover backstrap at the bottom of my freezer. Let’s cook it up, have some beers and break this place in right.September 24, 2013 at 10:59 am #4489
This place is COLD. Where is all the info from old forum? Is it lost for ever? If so, that SUX!

Damn I hate when they ‘upgrade’, I always have problems logging in. At least this time I kept my username. I need a couple of boilermakers. Who’s having what, it’s on me this time.

Nothing for me, thanks. Heading out into a tree after work today around 2:00 to try and get a jump on a doe here in 2B. Then out again tomorrow a.m., but I will be back Saturday night for a few cold MGD bottles, hopefully with a story to tell…September 28, 2013 at 7:18 am #5032
Why do the “upgrades” feel more like downgrades? This place is making me an alcoholic and I don’t even like beer.September 28, 2013 at 5:35 pm #5078
Wow….Cindy-san, our scantly clad barmaid, said since the upgrade, she’s had more business in the cantina, than all summer long. That’s a good thing.
dk, did you fire that smoke pole yet? TANX for the drink.
Glad you stopped in MRD, where you been hiding this summer? Stogies and frosties… sounds good to me. I might add a plate of garlic wings, and an OLD#7/ginger.
Maybe a small prayer for tomorrow’s Eagles game. I’m afraid they’re GUNNA GET KILT.(A little Coal Region slang).

Haven’t even picked up the new rifle yet. I was in DuBois on a Saturday when I won it but the gunstore was closed on Sunday so I couldn’t stop on the way home to Somerset to pick it up. I’m headed that way again on Oct. 18 so I’ll get it then. I just can’t justify a 4 hr round trip to pick it up when I am going there later. Call me cheap I guess. So I’ll only buy one round today
I’ll still pop in here once in while but as to the rest of the site, I’ll give them a month and see what shakes out. You can find me on the 24 hour campfire (Dale K) or the Pa. Firearms Owners Association forums (dk99358) or by email, email@example.com

dk, I checked out the Pa FOA site. Pretty awesome.
I’d say frugal is a better word than cheap. Hope you have the gun by now.
My boys and grandson saw nothing but bears on sat. Not one deer sighted in the valley. I’d like to get rid of those darn bears.
Drinks on the snake.

Snake, yeah I like that pafoa site, it’s a good source for Pa. gun laws and political activity regarding gun rights. Kind of heavy into the semi-auto scene and not so much hunting but it’s still a good site. Folks certainly express their opinions. A little ragged on some of the language.
Haven’t picked up the new rifle yet but I did contact the shop to let them know I hadn’t forgotten it. I’ve been doing some online research, lots of folks are suggesting I use real black powder instead of the substitutes. 75-80 grains seems to be the suggested charges. I did have a real DOH! moment, someone was asking about sabots, Hornady XTP’s, and cast bullets. Frick’n light bulb went on above my head, I reload for the 44 mag and have both XTP’s and cast 240 SWC on hand. All I need is sabots. It was a real face palm moment.
Saw a post on another forum, guy was in Mifflin County and had a bear scratching on the same tree he was in. He did manage to tag a doe later. Maybe after he went home and changed his shorts!
I’ve been twiddling my thumbs since October 1 as I am a furloughed government employee, wish they would get this crap sorted out so I can go back to work. On the other hand, I’ve had time to sort boxes after our move in June and found my main stash of ammo, might go to the range this week.
It’s early but set em up Cindy,

dk, my experience using FF powder in the early 80s was favorable. Really a pain in the azz to clean but it killed deer, then when 777 came out and I tried it…. it was a no brainer. I spoke with an engineer at CVA and he told me to dump a few grains of FFFF down the bore before the two 50 gr pellets to aid ignition. PERFECTO, easy to load, accurate, easy to clean, and I NEVER had a misfire because of the powder. I did have one once because of a loose flint, which cost me a large doe. Traditional is fine, especially if you are using lead balls. I like my 777 and a Power Ball.
Speaking of Hornady XTPs… wonderful bullets. I feed my big snake,(44mag Anaconda) 180 grainers, which are deer devastaters, and 125 grainers for the Pythons and King Cobra. I also load 300 grainers in 45 lg colt. I’m an XTP junkie.
Hope this gov shut down is over soon and folks like you can get back to work. After 38 yrs with the Fed I’m glad I retired when I did. Politics…. what a &%$#&%$ joke!!!!!
Time for a shooter of OLD#7 after that. Drinks on the snake.

had to work first day of inline ….so I made it out Monday eve 1/2 hr into my hunt a mature doe made a fatal error and stepped in front of my CVA Kodiak in .45 cal loaded up w/3 777 pellets and a 195 gr Powerbelt ……after the smoke cleared I could see her white belly ……she went no where it’s what ya call a bang flop……about an 85 yd shot……..so now there is meat in the freezer and I will turn my attention to a buck with the bow……Drinks on the skwirl and best of luck to allOctober 24, 2013 at 5:31 pm #7593
Congrats skwirl , I’ve got the same plan as you . got my doe Mon. morning with a double lung shot tight behind the shoulder but when the smoke cleared for me , nothing . She was piled up about 40 yds. away in the thick stuff I was hunting . Now back to bow and bucks .
