This morning at 10:15 just as I got to my favorite stand, I spotted a young 6 point mounting a doe about 30 yards away. They spotted me and took off to my left into the planted pines, so I quickly climbed up into my A-frame stand and watched the food plot to my left. I cocked the T/C, and sure enough a doe bolted out of the pines and started running across the food plot. Now, I’ve shot a ton of running deer with a shotgun while dog hunting; but never attempted to shoot a running deer with a rifle. I’ve shot ‘em when they were trotting or walking, but never flat out hauling ass. I led her by about a foot and squeezed the trigger. She slid to a rolling stop, kicked twice and it was all over at 10:18. I got out of the stand and walked the 60 yards to where she was lying and then realized it wasn’t the doe that had been breeding but was only a 52 lb Bambi! I was proud of the double shoulder shot, but embarrassed at the size of the deer. It’s amazing how big they look when they’re stretched out running! Anyhow, she’ll either be put on the bar-b-q pit, or in the stew pot!

Hey, young and tender ain’t always bad. Congrats on the shot, I hate running shots, I am just not fast enough to consistently drop them.

Hey Ron, I haven’t been around in a while but that’s a great shot. She’ll be good and tender.
By the way, I won the T/C Venture Weathershield .270 Win in the Gear Giveaway for September. It’s being shipped
now to my dealer. Do you prefer the T/C to any other rifle you have? I’ve never used a T/C but from what I’ve heard and read its
a great gun. My grandson, 10 yrs. old, shoots a T/C .243. He got a doe last week end.

Congratulations on winning the Venture in the contest. You and PVigiletti are the only people I’ve heard of who’ve ever won a gun!
My Ruger MarkVII .308 used to be my favorite, but the Encore has replaced it as my go to gun. I like the compact size and it’s incredible consistency, and accuracy. It’s much easier to handle in a tree stand due to it’s size and light weight, and it’s the only rifle I own that is camouflaged plus the stainless barrel and action is an added feature that makes it suitable for the environment I hunt in.
