Glad you dropped in DS. Thought maybe a gator bit your hand off while you were lipping a 10lb LM bass into your boat. Just how do you like that sunshine state? How is the hunting /fishing? Give us a shout when you can. Stay in touch my friend.
skwirl, hope mom is doing better. Maybe you should stop chasing her around the house while she’s…[Read more]
Darn skwirl, sorry to hear about your wife. Hope she mends quickly. Will keep you both in my prayers. I guess this cold weather and snow don’t help matters. Wish we lived closer so I could pitch in and help a little. Stay on course my friend and I’ll see you in a few months. Hopefully by then you both will have recovered.
Never one to turn down a…[Read more]
Not too much goings on in this gin mill lately. I may just buy the joint, and to drum up business…….drinks will be free to all VETS and HUNTERS.
dk, hope your shoulder is on the mend. My son just found out that the large buck he missed in NY during archery, was shot in their smokepole season. The lucky guy is from here in Pine Grove, and my…[Read more]
Any of you folks remember the classified ads in the back of some 50′s mags (not sure which ones) OL or F&S, maybe even Boy’s Life???? Anyway, a pair of crows feet had a 25cents bounty, and also squirrel tails sent to Mepps for their spinners were also worth 25cents. Always wanted to send them a few Chippy tails for a joke.
Hey dk, I think the…[Read more]
Well tank you kind sir, I’ll have the usual, OLD#7/ginger.
Shoulder surgery….. yuk….guess the smoke pole will have to wait until next year. It’s too dam cold now anyway. Tomorrow should be a good day to see and/or track those deerskeys. I had to wear a face mask today while running the snow blower to open up the driveway. I’m hitting the…[Read more]
Glad you all stopped in the cantina. My grandkids abducted my lap top days ago, I just captured it back for an hour or so.
Hope all had a great Xmas and wish all a Happy & Healthy New Year. They’re calling for temps in the 30′s tomorrow. I’m heading out with the flintlock tomorrow hoping for a plump doe.
Hey dk, have you heard from shovel…[Read more]
After the Eagles game yesterday I could use a stiff drink. Make mine a shooter of OLD#7.
skwirl, the guys at camp didn’t do so hot this year. Only one smallesh button buck. Not sure how much hunting was done with that crew.
Definitely will see you this spring for gobblers and fishees.
Hey dk, I’m like you, but… I throw some taters and veggies…[Read more]
Third one in the freezer! My grandson Taylor, nailed a large doe on Monday morning. One and done again for the Mod. 7, 7mm-08, 140 grn Ballistic Tip. That’s his 4th “one shot kill” in a row. I’m a proud pop. I had no such luck. Around 7:15 AM six deer came streaking up from the valley about 120yds from me, they were on a mission. Couldn’t put…[Read more]
Finally the site is working. Slowwwww, but working. TG
Yeh, Gully, we are both still here, like my neighbor says, ” true tick and tin”. How you be my friend? Getting ready for rifle season I hope. Since I missed all of last year and bow season this year, I’m biting the bit. The boys have 2 in the freezer so far this year, I’m hoping for at…[Read more]
12 clicks left and 6 clicks up and you should be good to go ( top target).
Still no BBD in NY. My son has been up there since last sun. Said he saw the big buck twice so far this week, both times too far a bow shot. He has the Model 7, 7mm-08 along for the rifle opener coming up. I think it opens this sun?? I’m hoping he scores. Then I’ll try…[Read more]
Well at least it went bang each time. My loose 2f BP was 90 grains with the flintlocks, then went to 100 grains when 777 came out. For the in-lines we use 150 grains of 777. I love the pellets and use the in all the smoke poles.
I pulled a real boner the first year I hunted with the flintlock. After I fired at a Doe and missed, I accidently…[Read more]
Congrats on the Elk SC. Tell us about the hunt. Rifle or bow, guided or on your own? I’m hoping to bag one here in good old Pa. yea….I know, fat chance, but I can still hope. As for a taxidermist, maybe dk (Dale) could help you out, I think he used to live in that general area. I can recommend an excellent taxidermist here in lower Schuykill Co.…[Read more]
Good news….BDD. My youngest son nailed a nice plump doe this AM with the CVA Optima Pro. I can smell the tenderloins sizzling on the Bar-B. My grandson and I saw NADA again. Have to wait until Buck season to hear the .270 bark. So one down so far this year.
OLD #7/ginger for me and a round for the bar.
Looks like I’m sucking the hind teat with you two guys. Congrats to both of you.I haven’t seen a deer yet. Had the .270 out yesterday but saw nothing on top of the mountain. Maybe tomorrow. Hey skwirl, save some deer sausage for my next trip up to see you in God’s country.
Quick story….last mon., my grandson dropped a glove from his tree stand,…[Read more]
dk, my experience using FF powder in the early 80s was favorable. Really a pain in the azz to clean but it killed deer, then when 777 came out and I tried it…. it was a no brainer. I spoke with an engineer at CVA and he told me to dump a few grains of FFFF down the bore before the two 50 gr pellets to aid ignition. PERFECTO, easy to load,…[Read more]
dk, I checked out the Pa FOA site. Pretty awesome.
I’d say frugal is a better word than cheap. Hope you have the gun by now.
My boys and grandson saw nothing but bears on sat. Not one deer sighted in the valley. I’d like to get rid of those darn bears.
Drinks on the snake.
Wow….Cindy-san, our scantly clad barmaid, said since the upgrade, she’s had more business in the cantina, than all summer long. That’s a good thing.
dk, did you fire that smoke pole yet? TANX for the drink.
Glad you stopped in MRD, where you been hiding this summer? Stogies and frosties… sounds good to me. I might add a plate of garlic wings,…[Read more]
