Have you ever wanted to use your smartphone when you’ve been off the grid, in an area where cell service is nonexistent? If so, you might want to keep an eye on the new Smart Hub from Explorer Satellite Communications. I had the opportunity to meet with Andy Cool, owner of Explorer, while I was at the 2014 SCI Convention. I quickly learned that hundreds of satellite communication companies exist (I knew nothing about the satcom industry before now), but according to Andy, Explorer is the only one that focuses intensely on the hunting market. Andy genuinely understands the special challenges often encountered by traveling hunters; he routinely supports individual hunters and outfitters from all around the world. When you’re in the market for a tool that might ultimately save your life during a sketchy wilderness hunting situation, it’s comforting to deal with someone who truly “gets it.” Devices already exist that will allow you to remotely access the Internet, transfer data and make phone calls via satellites. The Smart Hub is unique and exciting because it’s a lightweight, reasonably compact unit driven by a smartphone app. Watch this video to learn more.
